- SHOW.COM
-
- SHOW is a file browser, one among many nowadays. This is
- another oldie that still does certain things better than many of
- the more recent such utilities.
-
- o To the extent possible, what you see is what you have in
- the target file.
-
- o Control characters are shown as single contrasting colored
- characters.
-
- o You can pipe the output of another program into SHOW,
- using it like a sophisticated MORE filter.
-
- o SHOW does NOT scroll sideways--it is an "all vertical"
- browser that wraps long lines, with a blinking indicator to
- show wrapped continuations. To my way of thinking this is
- a big advantage when browsing binary files: you can be sure
- you are seeing ALL of some file. With a "sideways
- scrolling" browser, you can never be sure--maybe you are
- looking at a very long line of blanks that is followed by
- some code. How CAN you be sure? With SHOW you will always
- see EVERYTHING, without dubious sideways scrolling.
-
- o SHOW does find and repeat find operations.
-
- o There is a graphic at the bottom of the screen to indicate
- approximately where you are in the file.
-
- I don't know what you have been using to read these DOC files,
- but why not try SHOW now?
-
- Enter "SHOW" with no argument to display a page of help.
